Vinicius Jr Sends Derby Warning Ahead of Atletico Clash

The goals are missing, but the confidence is not.

Days before the Madrid derby, Vinicius Junior has fired a clear message to Atletico Madrid: his drought will not last.

The Brazilian winger came off frustrated in Real Madrid’s breathless 3-2 win over Elche in the sixth round of La Liga. He ran, dribbled, stretched the defence, but left the pitch without a goal or an assist, having passed up several big chances in front of goal.

On another night, he might have walked away with the match ball. Instead, he walked away in the 68th minute, substituted by Jose Mourinho with the game still in the balance and luck clearly against him in the box.

Real Madrid were forced to sweat until stoppage time. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 90+1 minute, when Carlos Espi struck the decisive goal to snatch all three points and spare the visitors from a damaging slip.

Vinicius, though, refused to dwell on the missed opportunities. He went straight to his Instagram Story after the game and turned the narrative on its head.

“My goals will return soon, I cannot keep wasting all these chances! On Sunday more is coming, Hala Madrid,” he wrote.

No ambiguity. No hiding. A public promise, and a pointed one.

His words land just as Real Madrid head into one of the fiercest fixtures of their season. Los Blancos travel to the Metropolitano on Sunday evening for the seventh round of the Spanish league, where Atletico Madrid will be waiting to test every weakness, real or perceived.

Against Elche, Vinicius settled for being the spark rather than the finisher, driving Real Madrid’s attacks and constantly threatening without applying the final touch. Now he appears to have circled the derby in red as the night to put that right.

The message before the clash could not be clearer: the chances will keep coming — and this time, he intends to finish them.
