Patrick Dorgu Withdraws from Denmark Squad Amid Injury Woes, Says Brian Riemer

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer has confirmed the withdrawal of Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu from the national team because of injury. The young defender limped off during Denmark’s recent UEFA Nations League win over Wales and will not be available for upcoming matches.

Growing Injury Crisis for Denmark

The Danish squad is currently struggling with numerous injuries during this international window, creating a challenging situation for Riemer. Dorgu is the latest player to be sidelined after sustaining an injury in the 2-0 victory against Wales, forcing him to leave the camp on Sunday evening. This adds to a list of key absences including Andreas Christensen, Alexander Bah, Albert Gronbaek, and Kasper Dolberg, all unavailable since the squad was first announced.

"We’re sending him home now, he’s out and won’t be ready for next week. Further examinations must show how long he will be out," Riemer told Bold.

Dorgu's Absence Impacts Denmark's Tactical Options

Dorgu’s injury leaves a gap on the left flank where his versatility had been vital. Riemer pointed out the squad’s limited depth and the physical strain on the remaining players due to the heavy schedule. The coach, previously with Anderlecht, admitted the situation is unprecedented for him.

"I have never experienced anything like it. I would like to be allowed to say that. And now another one went today. I counted, and there were seven or eight players before today who would normally always be in a squad of 23 men. They are not here. They have either gone home or not come at all. And now Dorgu went out today. And it’s just really annoying to be honest," Riemer told TV2.

Looking for Replacements

Faced with this dilemma, Riemer plans to call up replacements to fill the void on the wings. He is reviewing several candidates, including some experienced players and those performing well abroad. The manager wants players who can quickly adapt and handle the pressure of international competition.

"It could be Anders Dreyer, it could be Andreas Skov Olsen, who has started well in Turkey, but it could also be one of the young players," Riemer explained to Bold.

Rasmus Hojlund Reacts to Dorgu's Injury

Rasmus Hojlund expressed sympathy for Dorgu, underlining the importance of the Manchester United defender to the team and his former club. Hojlund described the potential long absence as a significant setback.

"I think it’s a shame. We have a huge profile, and he is also a huge profile for my former club. If he’s out for a long time, it’s obviously a bummer," Hojlund told TV2.
