Trezeguet Out for a Month Due to Hamstring Injury

Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” has been ruled out for a month after tearing his hamstring, Al-Riyadh announced on Wednesday on their official X account.

The Egyptian international suffered the injury in the early stages of Al-Riyadh’s clash with Al-Khaleej on Monday in the sixth round of the Saudi Roshn League. He went down just 13 minutes into the game and left the pitch in tears, a worrying sight for both club and country.

Medical examinations later confirmed the worst: a hamstring tear that will sideline him for four weeks. Al-Riyadh confirmed that Trezeguet will return to Cairo to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of Egypt’s national team medical staff.

Major setback for Egypt

For Hossam Hassan and Egypt, the timing could hardly be worse. The winger is now set to miss the national team camp scheduled to start on 17 September, ruling him out of the opening fixtures of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Pharaohs begin their campaign at home to Angola on Friday 25 September at Cairo Stadium, before flying to Juba to face South Sudan on Tuesday 29 September. Both matches were expected to lean heavily on Trezeguet’s experience and end-product in the final third.

A former Aston Villa player, Trezeguet has long been one of Egypt’s most trusted attacking weapons, combining European pedigree with a proven record in high-pressure international games. Now, Egypt must navigate the first steps of their AFCON 2027 journey without him – and prove they can cope until their key wide man is back in full flight.
