Trézéguet Injury Concerns Impact Al-Riyadh and Egypt’s Plans

Trézéguet’s return has lasted barely a week. His hamstring has spoken again.

After missing Al-Riyadh’s 5-0 thrashing by Al-Ahli in the fifth round of the Saudi Pro League, the Egyptian winger was thrust back into the starting picture for the Gulf clash with Al-Khaleej. The gamble did not last long.

He went down early in the match, immediately raising alarms on the touchline and in Cairo alike. The concern was instant: had he come back too soon?

Saudi outlet Al-Riyadiah reported that the same hamstring problem forced his early withdrawal against Al-Khaleej. The club will send him for medical examinations and X-rays in the coming hours to pin down the exact damage, assess the severity, and establish how long he will be out of both training and competitive action.

The timing is brutal. Trézéguet had been widely expected to join Egypt’s upcoming camp for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with two matches looming against Angola and South Sudan on 25 and 29 September. Now his availability hangs in the balance, and so does part of Hossam Hassan’s attacking blueprint.

This was Trézéguet’s sixth appearance of the season for Al-Riyadh across the league and the King’s Cup. He has one goal in the Saudi league and two assists to his name so far — one in league play, one in the cup — a steady start that hinted at growing influence before his fitness faltered again.

On the night, Al-Riyadh still clawed out a result that matters in the table. The draw pushed them up to 5 points and twelfth place, while Al-Khaleej moved to four points, sitting just behind in thirteenth in the Saudi Roshn Pro League standings.

Al-Riyadh now turn quickly towards Sunday’s trip to face Al-Khaloud, carrying a modest uptick in form — and a major question over whether their Egyptian star will be there to help sustain it.
