Tottenham's Winger Hunt: Savinho Top Target
Tottenham’s winger hunt is coming into sharp focus, and the picture is clear: Savinho first, everyone else a distant second.
With Roberto De Zerbi having quickly locked down midfield and defence, the attack is where Spurs have decided to spend big and be bold. He flagged early in the window that two or three forwards were still to come. Now the scale of that ambition is on show.
Spurs are set to pay a total of £85million to land Manchester City winger Savinho, a deal that has been building for weeks and is now moving towards the final stretch. He is not just a target; he is the target.
Transfer insider Pete O’Rourke laid out the current hierarchy of options.
“Savinho is their number one target for that wide attacking position, he is the priority and they’re working hard to reach an agreement with Man City over that one,” he told Football Insider.
Cody Gakpo sits close behind. The Netherlands international is “high on that list as well,” O’Rourke said, with both Savinho and Gakpo currently ahead of Pedro Neto in the Spurs pecking order.
“Pedro Neto is on Tottenham’s list, maybe not at the top of it right now,” he added. “Savinho is the one they’re really pushing to get done, and they’re keen on Gakpo too, so that’s where they stand at the moment.”
So Neto is in the frame, but only on the fringes for now.
Chelsea dig in over Pedro Neto
Any club wanting to move Neto will have to go through Chelsea, and that is where the story becomes complicated and very expensive.
TEAMtalk understands it will take around £100million to prise the Portugal star away from Stamford Bridge. His camp are open to the idea of a transfer, but Chelsea are demanding full value and then some.
Xabi Alonso, for his part, is in no rush to lose him and would happily keep Neto in his squad. The club are fully aware of the growing interest: Tottenham are watching, Manchester City are in the conversation, and Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have already tested the waters.
That Saudi offer – around £60million from Al-Hilal – was swiftly rejected, falling well short of Chelsea’s valuation and underlining how hard they intend to hold their line.
For Spurs, the numbers tell their own story. After committing £85million to Savinho, it is hard to see them immediately throwing £100million at another winger who largely operates in the same role.
Savinho is the deal they are driving to the finish. Gakpo is the alternative they like. Neto, for now, looks like the luxury option in a market where Tottenham have already chosen where to place their biggest bet.
