Joel Mvuka Returns to Bodo/Glimt After Celtic Spell

Joel Mvuka has drawn a firm line under his brief Celtic spell and gone back to familiar ground, signing a four-year deal with Bodo/Glimt – and openly conceding he needs football, not promises.

The 23-year-old arrived in Glasgow from Lorient with pace and potential, but his time in green and white never really left the runway. One start, in a Scottish Cup tie against Dundee. A cameo off the bench in a Glasgow derby win over Rangers at Ibrox in the same competition. Not a single Premiership appearance.

That was it. Then back to France in the summer.

Now he has returned to the Norwegian champions, the club where he first made his name, determined to turn frustration into momentum.

“I haven't played very much, but I feel like I have gained good experience even though I didn't get to play many games,” he told The National, reflecting on a season that stalled rather than soared. “I can take that experience with me. I have also become older and more experienced and I have returned as a better player.

“It's great to be back. I'm doing well and have improved since I was last here.”

For Mvuka, Bodo/Glimt offers more than just a shirt and a role. It offers a comfort zone he believes can sharpen him rather than soften him.

“I had a pretty good time in Glimt. I made a lot of friends, had a good time both on and off the field. That's something I took into account when coming back,” he said. “I've been following Bodo/Glimt since I left and I've seen that they've become a much better team.”

The Norwegian side have grown into regular European contenders, and Mvuka is clear about the scale of the challenge and the appeal of rejoining that project.

“It would have been cool to get into the league phase of the Champions League two years in a row. It's a good match between me and the club.”

His Celtic chapter closes with only flashes and footnotes, but in Bodo he has time, trust and a four-year contract. The next move is his.
