Syracuse Falls to Boston College in ACC Matchup

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Syracuse walked off the Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field on Friday night with the stat sheet, but not the result.

The Orange fired 19 shots to Boston College’s 8, dictated long stretches of play, and still left on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline. The Eagles needed only a pair of clear looks to turn the ACC matchup their way.

The breakthrough came in the 53rd minute. After Syracuse had pressed through a tight first half without reward, Boston College punished them just after the restart, with Michael Asare finishing to put the hosts in front and tilt the night.

Syracuse pushed back, chasing the equalizer and continuing to pile up attempts, but the final ball kept failing them. Shots drifted wide, hit bodies, or never truly tested the Boston College goal.

The punishment for that wastefulness arrived late. Russell Brown struck for the Eagles’ second, latching onto a pass from Moritz Gundelach to double the lead and slam the door on any Orange comeback.

At the other end, Syracuse goalkeeper Kyle Jansen was rarely called into action, credited with just one save. Boston College didn’t need volume. They had precision.

The loss drops Syracuse to 4-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play, while Boston College climbs to 4-1-1 and 1-1-0 in the ACC.

Syracuse won almost everything but the score on Friday. On Tuesday night at Colgate, they’ll find out if they can turn pressure into points before the season’s rhythm starts to slip away.
