Riccardo Calafiori Shines in Arsenal's Lineup Against Chelsea

Riccardo Calafiori’s surge continues. Mikel Arteta has handed the Italy international another marquee stage, naming him in Arsenal’s starting XI for Sunday’s London derby against Chelsea.

Fresh from a blistering start to the season, Calafiori keeps his place on the left of Arsenal’s defence. On paper, he’s the full-back. On the pitch, he’s far more than that. The 22-year-old has already supplied an assist in each of the Gunners’ first two league games as reigning Premier League champions, form that has driven him into the shortlist for August’s Player of the Month.

Arteta clearly trusts the former Bologna and Roma defender to tilt the pitch. Calafiori’s role has become a key part of Arsenal’s structure: step high, overload the flank, and squeeze opponents in their own half. Chelsea will know exactly what’s coming. Stopping it is another matter.

On the other side of the derby divide, Chelsea’s own Italian option misses out. Marco Palestra remains sidelined with a minor fitness issue, denying the visitors a like-for-like response in terms of Serie A-honed steel.

The stage, then, belongs to Calafiori.

Arsenal vs Chelsea – confirmed Arsenal lineup

Arsenal: Raya; White, Konsa, Gabriel, Calafiori; Rice, Lewis-Skelly, Odegaard; Saka, Tzolis, Havertz.

An in-form Italian defender, a London derby, and a title defence already humming in the background. Calafiori has the platform. Now comes the test of how brightly he can light up this rivalry.
