Rhian Brewster to Miss Next Two Matches for Derby County

Derby County will be without forward Rhian Brewster for at least their next two matches after the 26-year-old suffered concussion in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat by West Ham United.

Brewster lasted just 22 minutes of the Championship clash before being forced off, a setback that cuts into what had finally begun to look like a proper run in the side. He has featured in all five of Derby’s league games so far this season, starting the last two as John Eustace tried to play him into rhythm and fitness.

Immediate Concern

The immediate concern was his condition rather than his form. "He's feeling a lot better, he was really groggy on Saturday night, he felt dizzy and sick during the game," Rams boss John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby, outlining the impact of the head knock.

The mandatory concussion protocols now rule him out of the short-term schedule and deny Derby one of their key attacking options just as he was beginning to build momentum. Eustace did not hide his frustration at the timing.

"It's a big blow because I was really excited to give him a run of games - he's a top performer at this level and he needs to get fit and get games under his belt so it's a shame now for him to miss another couple," he said.

Upcoming Fixture

Derby return to Pride Park on Wednesday, 9 September (19:45 BST), when they host West Bromwich Albion. They will have to find a different route to goal while one of their main forwards sits out and waits for the all-clear.
