Portsmouth Coach Furious Over Incident Involving Krystian Bielik

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho says he was “absolutely furious” at the position he was put in over the incident involving Krystian Bielik and a supporter during Saturday’s win over Cardiff City.

Late in the second half at Fratton Park, with Portsmouth closing out victory, Cardiff defender Bielik went to retrieve the ball from the crowd. What followed was a physical altercation with a fan that immediately overshadowed the closing stages of the game.

After the match, Hampshire Police confirmed they had launched an investigation into an incident “in which a teenage boy was reportedly the victim of a common assault”.

Mousinho initially apologised to Cardiff’s players and condemned the behaviour of the supporters involved. At that point, he was going on what he had been told, not what he had seen.

By Wednesday, that had changed.

Speaking before Portsmouth’s upcoming fixture against Charlton, Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent that his post-match comments had been based solely on second-hand information.

“I’ve now seen the footage and my comments post-match were entirely based off what I was told,” he said.

“When the altercation kicked off I couldn’t see it from where I was myself, the referee then spoke to us and his words at the time were very clear that he had seen the incident in its entirety.

“He said that as Krystian went over to get the ball, the fan slapped him, and a second fan threw a ball at Perry Ng’s head.”

What began as a routine moment — a defender collecting a ball to restart play — has now drawn in police, prompted a furious head coach, and left serious questions hanging over supporter conduct as Portsmouth prepare for Charlton.
