Monaco Set to End Paul Pogba's Contract After New Injury
Paul Pogba's spell at Monaco looks set to end as the club prepares to cut ties after he suffered another thigh injury. The French midfielder's attempt to revive his career has hit another setback, and the club is moving towards ending their agreement with him.
Decision to End Contract
Reports from L'Equipe reveal that Monaco intends to terminate Pogba’s contract after he experienced a left thigh injury during training on Tuesday. He collapsed in pain while playing a small-sided game at St George’s Park. This injury simply confirmed a decision the club had already made weeks earlier. Pogba was told he could look for a new team, with talks ongoing about his financial settlement. It is understood he earned under £44,000 per week at Monaco.
A Troubled Comeback
Pogba returned to football in March 2025, following a doping ban reduction on appeal. He joined Monaco hoping to restart his career after parting ways with Juventus. Unfortunately, his time in Ligue 1 has been plagued by fitness problems. During pre-season, viewed as critical for assessing his form, he only managed 45 minutes in a friendly against Saint-Priest on July 18. A knee issue sidelined him for four games before this recent thigh injury occurred. He had just rejoined full training last Friday, aiming to complete his comeback.
Club Officials Confirm Ending the Partnership
The Monaco leadership has treated the situation carefully out of respect for Pogba, but the disappointment is clear. General manager Thiago Scuro spoke openly about the matter in a press conference, admitting the project hadn’t gone well. Scuro said, "The truth is that the project (with Pogba) did not work well last season. When we started it, the expectations we had were very different. Is he likely to leave? Yes, of course."
Pogba himself had expressed hope when signing, telling Daily Mail Sport, "We went through hell. A time of darkness. But this is my second chance, I have to use it." Sadly, it seems that second chance might be over now.
What Lies Ahead for Pogba?
An MRI scheduled for Tuesday afternoon will clarify the severity of his latest injury. Once the contract termination is official, Pogba will face a crucial decision. Earlier reports indicated he was offered to MLS clubs, but whether he chooses to pursue a new contract or retire remains uncertain.
