Leon Goretzka’s Future: Milan Moves Ahead in Transfer Race

Leon Goretzka’s future is edging into focus – and the road increasingly points to Milan.

The Bayern Munich midfielder is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, and, according to transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan have moved to the front of the queue. The Italian reporter speaks of “positive signs” that the 31-year-old will choose the Rossoneri.

Gazzetta dello Sport has backed that up. The paper reports that Milan, last season’s Serie A runners-up, have gone on the attack with a concrete offer: a three-year contract worth €5 million net per season. It is a serious proposal, and it has clearly shifted the balance of the race.

The competition is real, though. Juventus, Napoli and Inter have all made contact with Goretzka’s camp. Fenerbahce and Atlético Madrid remain in the conversation as well, monitoring the situation and ready to pounce if the Milan talks stall.

Bayern’s position has been clear for months. Since late January, the club and player have known there would be no contract extension. Goretzka, who arrived from FC Schalke 04 in 2018, will walk away after 305 competitive appearances and 49 goals in red – a long, decorated spell that now looks set to end with a move to Italy.

Milan, chasing experience and leadership in midfield, see him as a plug-and-play addition. The question now is whether any of the other suitors can disrupt that emerging trend before he puts pen to paper.
