Leipzig Players Critique Performance After Como Defeat

RB Leipzig walked off in Lombardy with a 4–1 defeat and a blunt assessment from their own dressing room ringing in their ears.

Captain David Raum did not bother dressing it up.

"This feels really awful, we got a real thrashing today. The first half was terrible," the full-back said after the loss to FC Como 1907.

Leipzig never settled. The hosts dictated the tempo, Leipzig chased shadows, and by the time they began to string passes together, the damage was already done.

Raum admitted the slight uptick after the break did little to change the overall picture.

"The second [half was] maybe a touch better. Overall, it wasn't a good performance from us. We have to learn from this.

"We need to get together as soon as possible, we actually had a clear plan. But we weren't brave or clever enough with the ball again.

"We had the chances to play. But it wasn't sharp enough, there just wasn't enough of anything today," the 28-year-old concluded, summing up a night where Leipzig looked a step slow in every department.

At his side in the mixed zone, fellow defender Willi Orban echoed the frustration. The Hungarian centre-back pointed straight at a game plan that never made it onto the pitch.

"We had a reasonable game plan, but it quickly became clear that we couldn't get a grip on Como's game. This game hurts a lot today.

"Como showed us what it means to be active with the ball, to make decisions on the ball, and to play good passes in the final third.

"We need to learn that from our opponents today; credit to them. Ultimately, our game plan didn't work out," the 33-year-old explained.

Leipzig now leave Italy with bruised pride, a harsh scoreline, and a clear message from their leaders: if they do not start matching opponents for courage and clarity on the ball, nights like this will not be a one-off.
