Leeds United vs Crystal Palace: Premier League Clash Preview
Elland Road wakes up early on Sunday with two very different Premier League stories colliding.
On one side, Leeds United – unbeaten in the league, full of noise and running, and fresh from a 4-1 dismantling of Newcastle United on Sept. 14. On the other, a Crystal Palace side already glancing nervously at the bottom end of the table, trying to balance domestic survival with the demands of Europe.
Kick-off is set for 6:00 a.m. PT, 9:00 a.m. ET, 2:00 p.m. BST. Leeds come in sixth, on eight points from four games. Palace sit 17th, with just three.
Two clubs. Same pitch. Very different mood music.
Leeds flying in the league, stung in the cup
Daniel Farke’s Leeds have made a sharp start to the Premier League season: two wins, two draws, no defeats. The numbers are simple enough, but the manner of that 4-1 win over Newcastle sharpened expectations. It was dominant, front-foot football, the kind Elland Road feeds off.
There is, however, a small bruise beneath the surface. Chelsea dumped Leeds out of the Carabao Cup in the third round with a 6-3 scoreline that underlined both Leeds’ attacking intent and their defensive vulnerability when the game becomes stretched. It was wild, and it was punishing.
Back in the league, though, Leeds look organised and confident. Farke has leaned into a back three and a busy, industrious midfield, building a platform for his forwards to press high and break quickly.
He will have to do it without a few key pieces. Harry Wilson is sidelined with a thigh injury, Joe Rodon is out with a hamstring problem, and Mateo Joseph misses out with a knee injury. The absences trim his options, but not his ambition.
Leeds are expected to stick with James Trafford in goal, shielded by a back three of James Justin, Nico Elvedi and Anel Muharemovic. Out wide, Jayden Bogle and Gudmundur Gudmundsson should provide width and energy, with a central trio of Anton Stach, Ethan Ampadu and Ritsu Tanaka tasked with controlling the middle of the pitch and snapping into duels.
Up front, the responsibility is clear. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor are the likely pairing, asked to stretch Palace’s defence, occupy centre-backs and turn Elland Road pressure into goals.

Palace caught between Europe and a relegation scrap
Crystal Palace arrive with a split personality. In Europe, they started with a statement: a 4-0 win over Lech Poznań on Matchday 1 of the 2026-27 UEFA Europa League. It was the sort of result that inflates belief, that makes continental nights feel like they belong at the club.
Back home, the picture is far less flattering. A 3-2 defeat to Ipswich Town on Sept. 12 left Palace with one win and three losses from their opening four league games. Seventeenth place is not yet a crisis, but it is a warning.
This trip to Leeds feels heavy with consequence. Palace need points to escape the early-season drag towards the bottom three and to avoid carrying domestic anxiety into their Europa League campaign. Morale can swing quickly in a season like this. Win at Elland Road and the narrative shifts. Lose again and the pressure thickens.
The team news does not help. Axel Disasi is suspended, removing a key defensive presence. Dean Henderson is out with an ankle injury, Chadi Riad is sidelined by a knee problem, and Jean-Philippe Mateta is missing with a hamstring injury.
Even so, the structure is likely to stay familiar. Palace are expected to turn to another Henderson in goal – this time the available option, not the injured Dean – with a back line of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Chris Richards and Ahanor asked to handle Leeds’ direct running and aerial threat.
Across midfield, Khalaili, Jurrien Timber, Adam Wharton and Tyrick Mitchell should form the core, mixing ball-playing ability with defensive work. Ahead of them, a front three of Ismaïla Sarr, Yeremy Pino and Jørgen Strand Larsen carries pace, trickery and a focal point in the box.

Elland Road test of nerve
On paper, it looks like a meeting of form against fragility. Leeds are unbeaten and scoring freely in the league; Palace are trying to stop the domestic slide while keeping the Europa League dream alive.
But Elland Road rarely does “routine”. The atmosphere can smother visiting sides or turn edgy if an early chance is missed. For Leeds, this is the kind of game that defines whether they are just a lively early-season story or a serious contender for the European places.
For Palace, it is something else entirely. It is a chance to drag themselves away from the wrong end of the table and to prove that the team that brushed aside Lech Poznań can also handle the grind of a Premier League Sunday in Leeds.
