Lamine Yamal Shines in Barcelona's 5–0 Victory Over Valencia

Lamine Yamal is back – and he didn’t bother easing himself in.

The 19-year-old lit up FC Barcelona’s 5–0 demolition of Valencia on Sunday, Sept. 6, scoring twice in his first goals of the La Liga season and reminding everyone why he is already one of the most talked-about talents in Spain.

He needed just six minutes.

Bursting onto a pass, Yamal kept his stride, swung his right leg up to waist height and, with the tip of his toes, guided the ball past the keeper and into the net. It was an improvised, instinctive finish – the sort of touch that separates gifted youngsters from genuine stars.

The celebration was pure family. Yamal put his thumb to his mouth, a nod to his toddler brother, Keyne, who was reportedly celebrating his fourth birthday on the same day. Keyne, alongside their mother, watched from the stands as the teenager took centre stage.

Barcelona never let Valencia breathe. Fermín López added his name to the scoresheet, Raphinha struck to deepen the damage, and Rodri – Yamal’s Spain teammate and fresh Golden Ball winner – joined the party with a goal of his own as Barça’s dominance turned the match into a procession.

Yet the night still belonged to Yamal.

His first goal opened the scoring; his second one closed it. In the 84th minute, with Valencia already beaten and the away fans in full voice, Dani Olmo slipped him the ball. Yamal shaped his body, swung his left leg and sent a crisp shot across himself and into the net. Another clinical finish. Another reminder of how natural this all looks to him.

The result pushes Barcelona to 4–0 in the league and keeps them on top of the La Liga table, a strong start for the defending champions after lifting the title in May.

For Yamal, it feels like a continuation of a story that was only briefly paused. He has already smashed records for both Barcelona and the league, but a hamstring injury cut short the end of his previous campaign. Now, with his fitness restored and his scoring touch back, the question isn’t whether he’s ready.

It’s how far he can take this Barça side this season.
