Juventus confirmed on Monday that Manuel Locatelli has undergone knee surgery, while Jeremie Boga faces several weeks out with a thigh problem, stripping even more depth from a squad already stretched to breaking point.

Locatelli out long term after meniscus tear

The pivotal moment came in the 1-1 draw with Milan at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday. Locatelli, the heartbeat of Juventus’ midfield, suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee. The damage is serious.

A club statement revealed that the Italy international travelled to Lyon, where surgeons sutured the external meniscus. The procedure was successful, but the timeline is brutal.

Sky Sport Italia report that Locatelli could be sidelined for five to six months. That would effectively rule him out until 2027, ripping a key organiser and tempo-setter out of the centre of the pitch just as the season begins to tighten.

For a side already relying heavily on his distribution, leadership and tactical discipline, it’s a major tactical and psychological loss.

Boga joins growing absentee list

As if that weren’t enough, Jeremie Boga has also been ruled out.

The winger has been diagnosed with a medium-grade lesion to the femoral biceps in his left thigh. Juventus’ medical staff will reassess the injury in two weeks, but the initial outlook is clear: Boga is expected to miss at least a month, with the lay-off likely stretching to around five weeks.

His absence robs Juventus of one of their key dribblers and a direct outlet on the flank at a time when rotation options are evaporating.

A squad stretched to its limit

These setbacks land on top of an already alarming situation. Juventus went into the Milan match without Kenan Yildiz, Khephren Thuram, Weston McKennie, Jeff Ekhator, Juan Cabal, Andrea Cambiaso and Pape Matar Sarr.

Now Locatelli and Boga are added to that list.

What was once a deep, competitive squad suddenly looks thin in crucial areas. Midfield balance, attacking variety, the ability to change games from the bench – all of it is under strain.
