Jurrien Timber will sit out Arsenal’s Carabao Cup tie against Ipswich on Tuesday night, with the club treating his absence as a calculated precaution rather than a fresh setback.

The Netherlands defender finally made his first appearance of the season in the Premier League win over Sunderland on Saturday, stepping off the bench to replace Ben White after the England international pulled up with a muscular problem in the first half at the Stadium of Light.

Timber’s return from a long-term groin issue had been carefully managed, and Arsenal are not prepared to rush him straight into another game. Despite being back to fitness, he is expected to be left out of the squad entirely for the visit of Ipswich.

Crucially, the decision is not understood to be connected to any recurrence of his groin injury. This is about caution, not crisis. After such a lengthy spell out, Arsenal want to ease him back in, control his minutes, and avoid loading his body too quickly.

Mikel Arteta is also ready to rotate heavily, with several senior players in line for a rest as the focus narrows on protecting key figures for the challenges ahead.

White, meanwhile, has undergone a scan to assess the damage from the muscle issue he suffered at the weekend. Arsenal are yet to confirm the severity of the injury, but he is not expected to feature against Gary O’Neil’s side.
