Jim Goodwin Returns to Dundee United Dugout After Medical Absence

Jim Goodwin will return to the Dundee United dugout this weekend after a three-week medical absence that briefly halted his season on the touchline.

The 44-year-old was admitted to hospital at the end of August with an undisclosed condition, before being discharged and returning home on 1 September. He has been away from day-to-day duties since, but is now set to step back into his role at Tannadice.

Goodwin will front Friday’s pre-match media conference ahead of United’s Scottish Premiership meeting with St Mirren on Saturday, signalling his full return to the frontline.

During his spell out, the Irishman could only watch from the stands, including earlier this month when United were held to a draw by Falkirk. On the pitch and in the dressing room, it was assistant Lee Sharp who carried the load.

Sharp has steered United through three Premiership fixtures in his temporary spell in charge, producing a perfectly balanced run: one win, one draw and one defeat since Goodwin fell ill.

Now the numbers and the responsibility pass back to the manager. With St Mirren next up and the season beginning to take shape, Goodwin’s return comes just as Dundee United look to settle their rhythm.
