Jamal Musiala Calms Fears After On-Field Collapses
Bayern Munich’s pre-season was jolted twice in the space of four days. Each time, Jamal Musiala was at the centre of it, and each time the sight was the same: the 23-year-old sinking to the turf, players rushing in, medical staff sprinting on.
The Germany international has now spoken publicly, determined to steady the mood around his health and his future.
Two scares in four days
The most recent incident came on Tuesday, August 18, in Bayern’s 4-2 win away to Heidenheim. Musiala had just come off the bench, barely a few minutes into his cameo, when he appeared disoriented and then went down.
Teammates and opponents quickly formed a protective ring as Bayern’s medical team treated him on the pitch. After a tense few moments, he was able to walk off without assistance, though visibly shaken.
It was a scene Bayern had already lived through that week. Three days earlier, in a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig, Musiala had looked unsteady and required help after another worrying episode. At first, the easy explanation was the summer heat. When it happened again under cooler conditions, that theory evaporated.
Bayern aware of underlying issue
Speaking after the Heidenheim match, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl revealed the club had already identified an underlying issue and were monitoring it closely. He stressed that Musiala was conscious, had gone through his usual post-match routine, and would address the situation himself.
That message arrived later that night.
Musiala reveals diagnosis
On Instagram, Musiala opened with exactly what anxious fans wanted to hear.
“First things first — I’m doing well,” he wrote, before outlining what specialists had told him. Doctors, he explained, had diagnosed temporary, brief and treatable absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.
He acknowledged how alarming the collapses must have looked in real time. But he also relayed the key medical verdict: doctors have ruled out any additional health risks.
With neurological clearance in hand, Musiala said he has decided to continue living his life as normal and keep playing football.
He described himself as “very optimistic” and used the post to thank Bayern Munich, his family and close friends for their support.
For Bayern and Germany, the images of Musiala on the ground will linger. So will his words. The next chapter now depends not on speculation, but on how his body responds as he pushes on with a career he clearly has no intention of slowing.
