Inter Milan Dominates Cagliari: Betting Insights and Predictions
Inter’s grip on Cagliari shows no sign of loosening. Thirteen Serie A meetings without defeat, 20 straight clashes in which the Sardinians have failed to keep a clean sheet. The champions arrive at the Unipol Domus on Sunday night with history, form and firepower on their side – and the betting markets reflect it.
Inter to strike first and stay in front
Inter needed just six minutes to open their account against Monza on Matchday 1. Andy Diouf burst into space, picked out Hakan Çalhanoğlu, and the Turk thrashed a right-footed shot into the roof of the net. It felt routine. It also fit a pattern.
Inter have scored first in each of their last nine meetings with Cagliari. They’ve gone in ahead at half-time in six of the last eight. This is a fixture where the Nerazzurri usually seize control early and never really let go.
There was one twist last time they met, though. At San Siro, Inter eventually ran out 3-0 winners thanks to Marcus Thuram, Nicolò Barella and Piotr Zieliński, but the game was still goalless at the break. The breakthrough came after the interval, not before it.
That matters because Fabio Pisacane doesn’t send his team out to trade punches. Cagliari are drilled to defend, to stay compact, to drag the contest into a grind. They may delay the inevitable, they may not. Inter’s habit of fast starts makes the half-time/full-time angle tempting, with the Nerazzurri to lead at the break and win the match priced at 11/10 with Sky Bet – an implied probability of 47.62%.

Sardinian trips, same story: Inter win, Cagliari blank
The island hasn’t been a sanctuary for Cagliari against these opponents. Inter have travelled to Sardinia three times in the league and left with three wins, all without conceding.
In August 2023, Denzel Dumfries and Lautaro Martínez delivered a straightforward 2-0 victory. In December 2024, Inter stepped it up again, winning 3-0. Last September, Lautaro scored once more and Francesco Pio Esposito joined him on the scoresheet in another 2-0 success.
The most recent encounter between the sides underlined the gulf. Cagliari mustered six shots. Not one of them tested the goalkeeper.
Cristian Chivu’s new-look back three of Yann Bisseck, Manuel Akanji and Alessandro Bastoni handled Monza with similar authority on the opening weekend, shutting down space and protecting J. Martínez. Cagliari did rattle the woodwork twice in their 1-0 win at Parma, so there is jeopardy here, but the numbers still point in one direction.
Inter to win and Cagliari to fail to score comes in at 23/20 with Sky Bet, a 46.51% implied probability. Given recent history between these sides, the price speaks loudly.

Esposito’s moment: a breakthrough to back
Some players ease into a season. Francesco Pio Esposito has decided to kick the door down.
Against Monza, the 21-year-old showed exactly why Chivu trusts him. Diouf whipped in a cross, Esposito improvised, and a clever backheel flashed past the keeper. It was his first of the campaign, but it felt like the start of something larger.
He knows this ground, too. At the Unipol Domus last season, he met Federico Dimarco’s low cross and scored his first ever Serie A goal. Same stadium, same sense of a young forward announcing himself.
Chivu rewarded him with a start alongside Lautaro Martínez at San Siro in the opener. Thuram and Bonny waited on the bench. That selection says plenty about where Esposito stands in the pecking order: right in the middle of a genuine battle for a permanent place in the XI, and currently winning it.
With expected minutes high and confidence higher, Esposito to score at any time at 11/10 (47.62% implied probability) looks a logical play.

Form guide: champions purring, Cagliari grinding
Cagliari come into this on the back of a deserved 1-0 win at Parma. Alessandro Romano, a summer arrival from Roma, settled it with a thumping left-footed strike from 25 metres. The Sardinians hit the post twice and controlled much of the contest, while Parma laboured in attack.
The win was overshadowed by concern for Yael Trepy, who remains in hospital after a swimming pool accident. He has left intensive care but will miss the Inter clash. Agustin Albarracín is also unavailable, though Pisacane has no suspensions to navigate. New signing Alieu Fadera trained with the squad for the first time this week and adds another option.
Inter’s start was less fraught and far more explosive. Their 4-1 dismantling of Monza at San Siro sent a clear message: the champions have no intention of easing into this title defence. Çalhanoğlu, Zieliński, Esposito and Bisseck all found the net after Gustavo Varela’s equaliser briefly levelled the scores.
Chivu can call on a fully fit squad with no suspensions. John Stones made his debut off the bench against Monza, while Curtis Jones and Djed Spence sat out as they build fitness. Spence is still short after a late start to pre-season, but the depth around him looks ominous for the rest of Serie A.
Predicted XIs and scoreline
Pisacane is expected to stay loyal to the side that did the job in Parma, with a structure built on work rate and discipline:
- Cagliari expected XI: Caprile; Zé Pedro, Deiola, Rodríguez, Obert; Adopo, Winks, Romano, Fazzini; Maldini, Mendy.
Chivu, meanwhile, should roll out the familiar 3-5-2 that sliced through Monza, with balance across the pitch and goals in every line:
- Inter Milan expected XI: J. Martínez; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Diouf, Barella, Çalhanoğlu, Zieliński, Dimarco; Lautaro Martínez, Pio Esposito.
On paper and on recent evidence, the gap is stark. Inter’s blend of control in midfield, variety in attack and a settled back line makes them overwhelming favourites to extend their unbeaten run in this fixture and their clean-sheet streak in Sardinia.
The forecast is clear: Cagliari 0-2 Inter Milan, with Esposito and Çalhanoğlu tipped as the likely scorers. If that script holds, the champions won’t just be defending their crown – they’ll be setting the pace for everyone else to chase.
