Harding Lady Bisons Fall to Washburn in 2-0 Defeat
SEARCY, Ark. — For 45 minutes on Sunday, Harding did what it has done better than anyone in the opening weeks of 2026: bend, absorb pressure, and refuse to break.
Then, in the space of two minutes, the dam finally burst.
Washburn struck twice early in the second half at Stevens Soccer Complex, handing the Lady Bisons a 2-0 defeat in their final tune-up before conference play.
Another scoreless half, same defensive grit
The non-conference clash went to halftime at 0-0, extending Harding’s unusual season-long streak. All five of the Lady Bisons’ matches have been deadlocked without a goal at the break.
Washburn came out on the front foot, pushing numbers forward and asking questions of Harding’s back line from the opening whistle. The Ichabods generated early looks and kept the ball in dangerous areas, but Harding’s defense held firm, snuffing out attacks and clearing crosses to keep the match level through the first 45.
The Lady Bisons again walked off at halftime with their defensive identity intact, still yet to concede a first-half goal this season.
Two minutes that changed everything
The restart flipped the script.
Washburn finally converted in the 57th minute, turning sustained pressure into the opening goal and a 1-0 advantage. Before Harding could settle, the Ichabods pounced again, adding an insurance strike in the 58th minute to seize full control and protect their unbeaten record.
Those back-to-back blows proved decisive. Harding chased the game from there but never found a way back.
Missed chances on the counter
Harding tried to respond through the counterattack, looking to spring forward quickly whenever they won the ball. The ideas were there; the final touch wasn’t.
Washburn edged the shot count 16-13, with both sides generating eight attempts after halftime. Harding created moments in transition but struggled to turn those into clear chances against a disciplined Washburn back line that managed the lead and saw out the shutout on the road.

Harding drops to 1-2-2 with the loss but now turns toward games that will define its season.
The Lady Bisons open Great American Conference play on Wednesday at East Central, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. in Ada, Oklahoma.
