David Warner, one of Australia’s most prolific modern cricketers, has been charged with mid-range drink driving after an alleged incident at a roadside testing site on Sunday.
The 39-year-old, who ended his international career in 2024 but continues to play Twenty20 cricket for franchises around the world, was reportedly behind the wheel of a van that pulled up and parked short of a random breath-testing checkpoint.
According to national broadcaster ABC, officers approached the vehicle and conducted a breath test on Warner, who returned a positive reading. Police then arrested him and took him to a local station, where he was charged with mid-range drink driving, ABC and other local outlets reported.
A police statement outlined the sequence of events but did not identify Warner by name. Local media subsequently confirmed his involvement.
Warner is scheduled to appear in court on May 7.
The left-handed opener retired from international cricket earlier this year after a career that yielded 8,786 runs in 112 Tests, a body of work that cemented his place among Australia’s most influential batters of the modern era.
