Crystal Palace Prepare for Historic Europa League Match with Key Players Returning
Crystal Palace are set for a landmark European night under the lights at Selhurst Park – and Pierre Sage might just have two of his main weapons back in the arsenal.
The manager confirmed that Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah are both in contention to feature in the club’s first-ever UEFA Europa League match, a league phase opener against Polish champions Lech Poznan on Thursday evening.

Sarr, last season’s top scorer, has not kicked a ball competitively this campaign after injury halted his momentum. Palace have missed his pace, his direct running, his goals. That drought could end on Thursday.
“He could be in the team tomorrow, as [could] Eddie Nketiah, because they started to train with us this week, and they are in shape,” Sage said, offering the clearest indication yet that both forwards are ready to return.
Nketiah began the season as a starter, leading the line in the opening three fixtures before dropping out of the squad for last week’s home games. His absence was felt. His potential comeback, alongside Sarr’s, suddenly changes the mood around Palace’s attacking options.
Sage stressed that the pair have thrown themselves into training since rejoining the group earlier in the week, sharpening up quickly as the Europa League debut looms.
Henderson out, but commits his future
Not all of the injury news is positive. Dean Henderson remains unavailable, as does Jean-Philippe Mateta. Sage is targeting the period after the upcoming international break for their returns, a timeline that keeps his first-choice goalkeeper and another key forward out of this historic night.
Off the pitch, though, Palace landed a significant boost. Just before Sage faced the media, the club announced that Henderson has signed a new long-term contract, tying the captain to Selhurst Park until 2030.
“We are really happy for us, we are really happy for him – it's a long-term contract for our captain,” Sage said, underlining the importance of Henderson’s presence not only between the posts but inside the dressing room.
