Como 1907 have announced that forward Roberta Picchi has been diagnosed with breast cancer – and responded with a powerful gesture of faith in their 34-year-old striker.
The club have moved quickly to renew Picchi’s contract through to the end of the 2027-28 season, a long-term deal designed to remove any doubt about her future and allow her to focus solely on treatment and recovery. No negotiations, no countdown, no looming expiry date. Just security.
In an official statement, the Italian club confirmed the diagnosis came “following a series of medical examinations” and detailed how their own medical staff will now work hand in hand with external oncology specialists to oversee every step of her therapy. The message was clear: Picchi will not face this alone.
“Roberta will now begin her treatment, supported throughout by the Club's medical team, who will work closely with the specialists responsible for her care. Everyone at Como 1907 is alongside Roberta and will give her and her family all the support they need during the months ahead," the statement read.
The contract extension was framed as part of that commitment, not a separate piece of business. Como underlined that stance by tying Picchi to the club until 2028 and then drawing a firm line around her private life: “As part of that continued commitment, the Club has also renewed Roberta's contract until the end of the 2027-28 season. At this time, we ask that Roberta's privacy is respected as she focuses on her treatment and recovery.”
