Christensen's Injury: Barcelona Defender Out for Several Weeks
Barcelona’s win over Sevilla came at a cost. Hansi Flick has confirmed that Andreas Christensen faces a spell on the sidelines after limping off at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
The Denmark international was withdrawn around the hour mark, clearly frustrated as he made his way to the bench and sat down looking concerned. Any hope it was precautionary vanished once Flick faced the media.
“He'll be out for several weeks. It's a muscle injury. He'll have more tests tomorrow,” the Barça coach said after the game.
The diagnosis rules Christensen out of Denmark’s upcoming Nations League fixtures over the international break, a significant setback for Kasper Hjulmand as well as for Barcelona. The defender will now remain in Barcelona to undergo further assessment and begin his recovery program.
The timing is awkward. Christensen does at least have the international window to start his rehab, but the calendar waiting for him on the other side is brutal.
When La Liga resumes next month, Barça open with a tricky run: Getafe, Real Betis and then the first Clásico of the season against Real Madrid. Mixed into that are heavyweight Champions League clashes with Galatasaray and Paris Saint-Germain.
Flick now has to reshuffle his back line for one of the most demanding stretches of his early tenure, while Christensen faces a race to be fully fit by the time the season’s pressure points really start to bite.
