Brown Men's Soccer Secures 1-0 Victory Over Saint Peter's
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — For 85 tense minutes on Saturday night, Brown pushed, probed, and piled on shots without reward. Then Lorenzo Amaral finally broke the deadlock.
With the clock showing the 86th minute at Stevenson-Pincince Field, Amaral delivered the decisive moment, slotting home the winner to give Brown men’s soccer a 1-0 victory over Saint Peter’s and push the Bears to 2-1 on the young season.
It was Amaral’s second goal of the campaign, and it came off a well-worked move involving teammates Carlo Brown and Alex Sauerbrei, who combined to set up the forward. The goal capped a relentless individual performance: Amaral finished with a game-high six shots and again looked like Brown’s most dangerous outlet in attack. The Bears are now 2-0 at home.
Bears on the front foot
The story of the night was Brown’s control and Saint Peter’s resistance. The Bears outshot the Peacocks 12-7 overall and 6-3 in the first half, with Amaral alone accounting for five of those first-half efforts. The chances kept coming; the breakthrough did not.
Saint Peter’s absorbed pressure and leaned heavily on goalkeeper Sebastian Heredia-Randen to keep the match level. Brown dictated tempo, but every half-chance seemed to skid wide, get blocked, or fall kindly for a defender.
At the other end, Brown’s new man between the posts looked composed. Making his first-ever start for the Bears, goalkeeper Graham Kois needed just two saves to secure his debut clean sheet, but both stops mattered in a match where one mistake could have flipped the script.
Second-half surge and late payoff
The second half followed the same pattern, with Brown turning the screws.
Midway through the period, Mateo Pereyra forced Heredia-Randen into a sharp stop, a drive that the Saint Peter’s keeper pushed away for a corner. The pressure didn’t ease. From the ensuing set piece, the ball eventually fell to James Snaith at the top of the 18-yard box, and his shot again drew a save from Heredia-Randen.
Those moments felt like a warning. Brown was getting closer, the crowd sensing that Saint Peter’s back line could only hold out for so long.
The pressure finally told in the 86th minute. Amaral, who had been at the heart of Brown’s attack all evening, found the window he needed. One clean finish later, the Bears had the lead they had chased all night and a result that matched their dominance.
Brown closed out the final minutes without drama, locking in the 1-0 win and another home shutout.
Next up, the Bears return to Stevenson-Pincince Field on Friday, Sept. 11, when they host Stonehill under the lights at 7 p.m. If Amaral and company carry this kind of attacking intent into that one, the home record may not be the only thing that stays perfect.
