Benjamin Sesko Withdraws from Slovenia Squad Amidst Manchester United Injury Crisis
Benjamin Sesko has pulled out of Slovenia’s Nations League squad as Manchester United’s injury list grows and their season stutters.
The 23-year-old striker missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham after taking a knock to his shin in last week’s League Cup defeat to Brighton. That problem has now ruled him out of Slovenia’s upcoming fixtures, a blow for club and country at a time when both could use his presence.
United confirmed the news on Monday, outlining the next steps for their summer signing.
“Manchester United can confirm that Benjamin Sesko has withdrawn from the Slovenia squad ahead of the upcoming three-week international break,” the club said in a statement. “Benjamin will undergo tests this week before defining his individual recovery plan.”
For Slovenia, it means facing a demanding Nations League schedule without their leading centre-forward. Sesko will miss two matches against Scotland, as well as clashes with North Macedonia and Switzerland.
For United, it is another unwelcome line on an already worrying bulletin.
Sesko, on two goals for the club this season, became the fourth United player in a single day to be ruled out of international duty. Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have both withdrawn from the England squad, while Karl Darlow has left the Wales camp.
The pattern is as troubling as the league table.
Current Standings
Michael Carrick’s side sit 12th in the Premier League, marooned in mid-table after taking just five points from their first five games. Performances have been patchy, goals hard-earned, and now the squad is being stretched before autumn has truly bitten.
Looking Ahead
The international break offers time to breathe, but not much comfort. Medical assessments, recovery plans and rehab sessions will dominate the agenda at Carrington over the next three weeks.
Then comes the next test: Tottenham at Old Trafford on October 10, the league’s bottom side on paper, but exactly the kind of fixture United cannot afford to misjudge in their current state.
