Benjamin Sesko's Injury Concern: Latest Updates

Benjamin Sesko faces another spell of uncertainty on the treatment table after suffering a recurrence of a shin injury that has already disrupted his first months at Manchester United.

The Slovenian forward has withdrawn from his national team squad for the current international break and will undergo medical examinations this week, according to The Athletic. The same problem sidelined him over the summer and has now flared up again just as he was trying to build rhythm at club level.

United moved quickly to calm the noise without hiding the concern. In an official update on Monday, the club confirmed: “Benjamin will undergo tests this week before defining his individual recovery plan.”

The injury first struck in the spring, but Sesko pushed through the pain for around two months as United chased Champions League qualification. That gamble has come back into focus now. The 21-year-old missed training after the 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton and then sat out the 1-1 Premier League draw at Fulham.

Manager's Update

At Craven Cottage, Michael Carrick cut a cautious figure when asked about his striker’s condition.

“We’re not sure with Ben yet. He felt a bit of pain after the game [against Brighton] so we’re assessing him,” Carrick said. “At the moment, he definitely wasn’t ready for [Fulham], so I haven’t really got any more news to give you at this point. We’ll have to see what that brings.”

For Sesko, it is a brutal interruption to a high-profile move that was supposed to launch him as United’s next long-term No 9. He arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2025 in a deal worth €76.5 million, with a further €8.5m written into the agreement as potential add-ons.

He justified the hype last season with 12 goals, but this campaign has started in a low gear. Just two goals so far, no Premier League starts, and now another injury cloud. United had already handled him carefully after his disrupted pre-season, easing him back more slowly than expected. His withdrawal from international duty underlines that the underlying issue has not gone away. He has not played for Slovenia since October 2025.

The timing is awkward. United intend to use this international break to lock in a detailed rehabilitation plan, with the medical staff hoping that a sustained period of rest will finally settle the shin problem and prevent it turning into a chronic concern.

On October 10, Tottenham Hotspur come to Old Trafford in a fixture that could shape the early narrative of United’s domestic campaign. Carrick will hope the tests this week bring clarity, and that his marquee forward is not reduced to watching another season-defining night from the stands.
