Barcelona have made their position clear: they admire Alessandro Bastoni, but they refuse to be dragged into a summer-long tug-of-war over his price.
The La Liga club have been tracking the Inter Milan defender and see him as a potential pillar of their back line. Yet, according to reports from Il Resto del Carlino via FCInter1908, the Catalans believe Inter’s valuation is wildly out of step with their own.
Inter, riding high at the top of Serie A, have planted a firm €70 million tag on Bastoni. For them, he remains a reference point in defense. Despite recent struggles and criticism from sections of the fanbase, Cristian Chivu still views the 26-year-old as the cornerstone of his rearguard and has no intention of letting him go cheaply.
Barcelona’s stance is starkly different. Their interest is real, but their ceiling is set: around €40 million. No more.
Deco Steps In
Into that gap steps Deco. The Barcelona sporting chief has, per the same reports, effectively warned Inter that the Spanish giants will not entertain what they consider an inflated fee.
The message is blunt: lower the demands or risk losing the deal.
Bastoni, for his part, is understood to be weighing up his future as his relationship with a portion of the Serie A crowd frays. The sense that a new challenge could tempt him is growing, but Inter’s price is the wall that stands between curiosity and concrete negotiations.
Barcelona, though, are not waiting around.
Lucumi Back on the Radar
As they monitor Bastoni’s situation, the Catalans have already pulled an alternative from the drawer. If Inter refuse to budge, Barcelona are prepared to turn back to Jhon Lucumi.
Hansi Flick’s side tried to land the Bologna defender last summer after parting company with Inigo Martinez. That move never materialized, but the admiration never really cooled.
Now, with the Bastoni operation threatening to stall before it truly starts, Lucumi has re-emerged as a serious option. Barcelona are reportedly readying a new offer for the Colombian, positioning him as the immediate Plan B should Inter continue to hold the line at €70m.
The message from Camp Nou is unmistakable: they want quality at the back, but not at any price. Inter can cash in on Bastoni, or Barcelona will simply pivot and invest their limited budget elsewhere.
