Atlético-MG vs Bragantino: Sudamericana Quarterfinals Clash

The night at Arena MRV will decide everything. Atlético-MG and Red Bull Bragantino have confirmed their lineups for the clash that sends one of them into the quarterfinals of the CONMEBOL Sudamericana.

Galo arrive with the advantage and the mood to match. They won 1–0 in Bragança Paulista and can afford a draw in Belo Horizonte to secure qualification. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Brasília time), with the stands expecting a knockout atmosphere rather than a cautious second leg.

Galo go as strong as they can

Backed by the away win and a convincing 3–0 victory over Grêmio in the Brasileirão, Atlético-MG step onto their own pitch with the strongest side they can assemble.

Three names immediately change the face of the team: Natanael, Maycon and Bernard return after sitting out the match against Grêmio. The idea is clear – control the ball, dictate the rhythm, and avoid turning the night into a frantic exchange of blows.

Some absences, though, shape the bench and the attack. Thiago Borbas, who is owned by Bragantino, is unavailable. So are the injured Igor Gomes, Scarpa, Léo Duarte, Lyanco and Índio. With those options off the table, Reinier leads the line from the start.

Atlético-MG start with: Everson; Natanael, Ruan, Vitor Hugo and Lodi; Alan Franco, Maycon, Victor Hugo and Bernard; Cuello and Reinier.

It is a team built to protect the lead without abandoning the ball. The full-backs can push, the double pivot offers security, and Bernard’s return adds a layer of craft between the lines that Galo did not have at Bragança.

Bragantino forced to attack

On the other side, the mission is simple and brutal for Bragantino: overturn the deficit away from home. Anything less than a win, and their Sudamericana campaign ends tonight.

There is at least some good news for the visitors. Mosquera and Rodriguinho are back in the squad, and the latter goes straight into the starting XI to give the midfield more punch and presence around the box.

RB Bragantino start with: Cleiton; Agustin Sant'Anna; Pedro Henrique, Gustavo Marques and Juninho Capixaba; Ramires, Rodriguinho and Lucas Barbosa; Herrera, Vinicinho and Isidro Pitta.

It is an XI set up to be brave. Rodriguinho offers late runs and finishing from midfield, while Herrera, Vinicinho and Isidro Pitta carry the responsibility of turning half-chances into the goal that drags Atlético out of their comfort zone.

One side plays with the cushion of a 1–0 lead and a roaring home crowd. The other steps into a hostile arena knowing only victory keeps the dream alive. By the final whistle at Arena MRV, there will be no doubt: one project moves on in the Sudamericana, the other is left to count the cost of a night that could define their season.
