Arsenal's Summer Signings Ready for Tough Aston Villa Clash
Arsenal are poised to roll out their marquee summer signings on one of the toughest away days in the league – a trip to Aston Villa – with Mikel Arteta ready to call on fresh firepower and familiar faces.
Konsa ready for reunion
Ezri Konsa is the headline act. Signed from Villa earlier in the window, the England defender missed the comfortable opening-day win over Coventry City but now stands on the brink of his first competitive outing in Arsenal colours.
Arteta’s message on Konsa was clear and upbeat. The centre-back has shaken off his issues and is pushing hard for inclusion against his former club.
“He is training really well and available for selection,” the Arsenal manager said, underlining just how close Konsa is to stepping straight into the squad for Monday night.

Guimaraes edging back
Bruno Guimaraes is not far behind. The Brazilian playmaker, who impressed in the Community Shield victory over Manchester City, has been nursing a minor thigh strain and missed the league opener.
Arteta is walking a fine line with him. Arsenal want his control and creativity in midfield, but not at the cost of a setback.
“We just managed the last few days with him. He has been out on the pitch doing training sessions. We have just been managing the load. He is potentially available,” Arteta explained.
So Guimaraes travels to the West Midlands as a possibility rather than a guarantee – fit enough to tempt, important enough to protect.
Timber close, but not close enough
Not all the medical updates were as encouraging. Jurrien Timber, battling a groin problem, will not make the Villa clash despite clear signs of progress.
Arteta laid out the timeline with typical precision. Timber is edging nearer, but not yet ready to rejoin the fight.
“Jurrien is progressing really well. It is the third week in a row that we have increased his load. If it all goes well, we can step it up next week,” the Spaniard said.
A week or two more, then. Arsenal will have to wait a little longer to see Timber fully back in the mix.
Saliba blow hangs over Arsenal
The real cloud hangs over William Saliba. The Frenchman has been the bedrock of Arsenal’s defensive resurgence, a constant presence in recent campaigns. Now he faces a “significant spell” out with a persistent back problem.
“Willy is going to take a while,” Arteta admitted, a blunt verdict that strips away any hope of a quick fix.
His absence forces a reshuffle that will shape Arsenal’s early season. Without their defensive pillar, every selection call at the back carries extra weight.
New look around Gabriel
In Saliba’s shadow, others have stepped up. Cristhian Mosquera has impressed in the opening weeks, slotting in with composure and authority. Yet the imminent return of Konsa changes the picture again.
With Gabriel Magalhaes holding his place on the left of central defence, Arteta suddenly has a different kind of choice: stick with the in-form Mosquera or turn to the high-profile signing returning to his old home.
