Arsenal Sign Phoenix Blayney: Teenager Chooses Emirates Pathway
Arsenal have beaten Liverpool and Nottingham Forest to the signature of highly rated Larne teenager Phoenix Blayney, underlining once again the club’s aggressive drive to stock their academy with elite young talent.
The 15-year-old Northern Irish prospect impressed during a trial with the Gunners, convincing coaches that he was worth a firm push from the club’s recruitment team. That push has paid off.
Liverpool and Forest both put contracts on the table. Blayney even visited Anfield, photographed in Liverpool kit after being shown around the training facilities, a clear sign of how serious the Merseyside club were about landing him. The tug-of-war looked set to run.
It didn’t.
Blayney’s father, Alan, has now confirmed that Arsenal have won the race for his son’s signature.
“Everything has been agreed with Arsenal, he just needs to sign the contract,” he told the Belfast Telegraph. “It’s done and dusted and a pre-contract will be signed when the time is right.”
The plan is straightforward. Blayney will link up with Arsenal this summer and sign a pre-contract agreement, before committing to professional terms when he turns 17 in November 2027. It is a long-term play from both club and player, and a structure Arsenal know well.
The north London side have already used the same route this season with Marli Salmon and Max Dowman, who each signed pre-contracts and will move onto professional deals on their 17th birthdays. Blayney is expected to follow that template.
For the player and his family, Arsenal stood out in a crowded field of Premier League suitors.
Blayney’s father described the Gunners as the “shining light between them all” when weighing up the offers. The teenager’s experience in north London clearly left a mark.
“Phoenix enjoyed being at Arsenal, he felt a connection there and really likes the coaches,” he said.
That connection runs beyond the training pitch. One of Blayney’s close friends, Daniel McCarron, has already joined the club, adding another pull towards the Emirates.
“One of his good friends Daniel McCarron has joined the club and that’s probably one of the reasons too. Him and Daniel play in the same Northern Ireland team,” his father added.
For Arsenal, this is another deliberate step in a broader strategy. The club have been relentless in targeting standout teenagers from across the UK and beyond, determined to keep a steady stream of top prospects flowing into their academy.
Inside the club, Blayney is viewed as one of those high-upside talents: young, ambitious, and already accustomed to performing at a strong level in Northern Ireland. The expectation is that he will be moulded carefully, given time, and dropped into a pathway that has recently produced first-team opportunities for the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.
The stakes for a 15-year-old are different, the timeline longer, but the direction is clear. Arsenal believe Phoenix Blayney is worth betting on. And in choosing the Gunners over Anfield and the City Ground, the teenager has made his own statement about where he sees his future being built.
