The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) returns for the 2026-27 season with several updates beyond just player price and position changes. Managers will find new tools like starter team assistance, live mini-league updates, a price-change predictor, and more.
Starter Team Assistance
Choosing a starting squad can be daunting with a £100m budget and 15 spots to fill. This season, FPL offers help by asking a few questions about your preferred team and play style, then suggesting a starting lineup. You can adjust this squad freely until the first gameweek deadline.
Live Mini-League Updates
Competition in mini-leagues is a big part of FPL's appeal. Now, league tables refresh live during matches, showing real-time standings. Bonus points will appear from the 20th minute onward instead of only after confirmation post-match.
Price-Change Predictor
A new feature forecasts whether players' prices are likely to rise or fall at midnight the next day. It categorizes predictions as very likely to rise, likely to rise, unlikely to change, likely to drop, or very likely to drop, giving managers a better idea of potential value shifts.
Adjustments to Bonus Points and Lockdown Times
The bonus point system, overhauled last season, sees further tweaks. Tackles no longer count against players when awarding bonus points, benefiting attacking midfielders and full-backs who were among the most tackled last term.
Defenders now need three clearances, blocks, or interceptions (CBIs) to earn one BPS point, up from two, which should limit their defensive contribution points.
Goalkeeper save points have changed: all saves earn two BPS points regardless of shot location. An extra BPS point is awarded for denying a 'big chance.' Penalty saves dropped from eight to seven points, but the big chance save point balances this out.
Bonus points finalization lockdown has shifted from one hour after full time to 09:00 UK time the next morning, allowing Opta to review match data thoroughly.
Features Continuing From 2025-26
- Chips Used Twice: Each chip can be used once before Gameweek 20 and once after. These chips include Bench Boost, Free Hit, Triple Captain, and Wildcard.
- Defensive Contribution Points (Defcon): Players earn bonus points based on defensive actions: two points per 10 actions for defenders, two points per 12 for midfielders and forwards. This has already influenced player valuations significantly.
Player Price Changes and Position Updates
Erling Haaland remains the priciest player in FPL history, rising from £15m to £15.5m. Bruno Fernandes saw a significant increase from £9m to £12m after setting an assist record last season. Arsenal’s Gabriel rose from £6m to £8m, making him one of the most expensive defenders ever.
Eleven players have changed positions this season. Four defenders became midfielders: Myles Lewis-Skelly, Lamare Bogarde, Keane Lewis-Potter, and Patrick Dorgu. Eli Junior Kroupi switched from forward to midfielder.
On the defensive side, Mats Wieffer, Rio Cardines, Ryan Sessegnon, and Eric Moreira moved from midfield to defense. Forwards this year include Omar Marmoush and Georginio Rutter, both former midfielders.
