According to The Sun, there was no sign of Bruno Guimaraes or Cristhian Mosquera during Thursday’s open session, casting immediate doubt over their involvement in Sunday’s London derby against Chelsea. For a side that has opened the Premier League campaign with two wins from two, it is an unwelcome twist before one of the marquee fixtures of the early season.
Guimaraes worry as groin issue lingers
Guimaraes is the headline concern. The £75 million summer signing from Newcastle United has been nursing a persistent groin problem since his arrival in North London. It already cost him a place in Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Coventry City, and although he returned with a 19‑minute cameo off the bench in Monday’s win over Aston Villa, his absence from training will set alarm bells ringing.
Mikel Arteta has handled his new midfield lynchpin with extreme caution. Arsenal have depth in the middle of the pitch, which has allowed the manager to manage Guimaraes’ minutes, but this is exactly the type of occasion he was bought for. If the 22-year-old is not passed fit, Konsa is in line to make his full home debut at the Emirates. Signed from Aston Villa for £51 million last month, he is the natural replacement to step into the back line.
