Carlo Ancelotti on Endrick's Development Amid Neymar's Absence
Carlo Ancelotti is in no rush. Not with a teenager like Endrick. Not even with a Neymar-sized gap in Brazil’s attack.
With Neymar ruled out of Brazil’s second Group C match against Haiti, having already missed the 1-1 draw with Morocco, the noise around Endrick has grown louder. A Grade 2 strain to Neymar’s right calf, suffered while playing for Santos on May 17, has pushed the country’s biggest star to the treatment room and placed a spotlight on the next in line.
The obvious question followed: if Endrick is as special as everyone says, why isn’t he playing?
Ancelotti’s response was simple, almost terse, but loaded with intent.
“Because I will put Endrick in at the right moment. We have to wait a little. He will be important.”
That was the line. And it told its own story.
Ancelotti is drawing a clear line between replacing Neymar now and developing Endrick properly. The teenager is not being thrown in just because the No 10 shirt is temporarily empty. His pathway, the coach insists, is being managed on its own terms.
The message is twofold. First, timing. Ancelotti stressed that the decision is about when, not if. Brazil, he said, “have to wait,” underlining that the staff are choosing their moment carefully rather than reacting to public pressure or injury misfortune.
Second, reassurance. By repeating that Endrick “will be important”, Ancelotti anchored the youngster firmly within Brazil’s long-term plans. The forward is not on the fringes. He is being held back for impact, not ignored.
Neymar’s recovery is being plotted with the knockout rounds in mind. Every step is calculated, every day measured against the hope of having him fit when the stakes rise. Ancelotti’s handling of Endrick follows a similar logic: controlled minutes, controlled expectations, controlled timing.
For now, even with Neymar unavailable, Brazil’s head coach is standing his ground. Endrick will not be rushed into the role many assumed he would inherit overnight. He will arrive when Ancelotti decides the stage is truly his.
