Head coach Peter has shut the doors.
Frustrated by a leak from within his own training ground, the ADO boss has moved to close previously open sessions after team information appeared online almost immediately.
Speaking to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, Peter did not hide his annoyance at the breach of trust. "I don't know who it was, but in any case someone, or a few people, posted information online immediately. That makes keeping training sessions open completely pointless for us."
For him, tactical secrecy now outweighs the club’s long-held tradition of accessibility.
"We want everyone to be able to come and watch training, but that information has to stay inside the complex," he said. "That didn't happen, so we have to close the doors."
He admitted he is unsure whether similar leaks happened last season, but this time the evidence was undeniable. The moment the session ended, details of his plans were already circulating online. The reaction has been swift and decisive.
Focus turns to long-awaited Eredivisie home return
The selection leak is an unwelcome distraction, yet Peter’s attention is already shifting to something far more positive: ADO’s first Eredivisie home match in five years.
FC Groningen arrive in The Hague on Sunday afternoon for matchday two of the 2026-27 campaign, and they will walk into a sold-out stadium. ADO, beaten 2-0 by AZ on the opening weekend, are still hunting their first points of the season after second-half goals from Ro-Zangelo Daal and Calvin Stengs settled that contest.
Despite that setback, Peter expects a game that suits his side’s energy.
"I don't expect any surprises and I'm hoping for an open game played at high intensity by both teams," he said, outlining a clear vision of how he wants the afternoon to unfold.
Groningen come with momentum. They edged past FC Utrecht in their curtain-raiser and travel south brimming with confidence, a stern early test of ADO’s top-flight readiness and resilience.
Injury picture and selection calls
Peter’s options are still limited in key areas.
Jalen Hawkins remains sidelined with a hamstring problem, while Cameron Peupion is a long-term absentee after knee surgery. Both miss out on the club’s big homecoming.
There is better news in goal. Niclas Thiede has returned to full training following an ankle injury and is back in contention. Between the posts, at least, the head coach has a decision to make rather than a gap to plug.
Cagliari loanee Othniel Raterink is another name to watch. He is still building match fitness but could feature from the bench, a potential new weapon as the tempo rises late on.
