Newcastle United Targets Wilfried Singo with €40 Million Bid

Newcastle United’s summer rebuild has been driven by youth and upside, but the job is far from finished with the window running until Sept. 1. The club has moved early to reshape the squad for Matthias Jaissle, and the latest addition, full-back Amar Dedic, will stiffen the right flank of his defense.

Yet the real noise now surrounds the heart of that back line.

Newcastle move for Singo

In Turkey, the story has taken a sharp twist. Fanatik reported on Tuesday that Newcastle has lodged a €40 million (£34.5 million) bid with Galatasaray for Wilfried Singo, the Ivory Coast international who can operate both at centre-back and right back.

“Newcastle United, a Premier League team, has officially entered the race for the 25-year-old versatile player,” Fanatik wrote, adding that, according to Sabah, the English club has “allegedly approached Galatasaray with a record-breaking transfer fee offer of 40 million euros.”

For Galatasaray, the numbers are tempting. Singo only arrived from Monaco last summer for around €30 million (£25.9 million). One season on, a €40 million offer already represents a healthy profit on a player tied down on a long-term deal until 2030.

The Turkish champions, though, are not biting yet.

Galatasaray hold their ground

Reports in Turkey suggest Galatasaray want more. A lot more. The club is said to be pushing for a fee closer to €60 million (£51.3 million), testing just how serious Newcastle are about this pursuit.

“Galatasaray management is not rushing into a decision regarding the star central defender, who has a long-term contract with the club until 2030,” Fanatik reported. The message is clear: if Newcastle want Singo, they will have to pay at the very top end of his market.

This is not a new infatuation on Tyneside. Newcastle were first linked with Singo over a year ago, back when he was still at Monaco and valued at around €25 million. His current valuation is understood to be around €23 million, yet the Premier League side is now prepared to go significantly higher to prise him away from Istanbul.

A flexible answer to an aging defense?

From Newcastle’s perspective, the attraction is obvious. Singo’s versatility gives Jaissle options. He can slot in centrally or cover at right back, offering depth and tactical flexibility as the club tries to refresh an aging defensive unit without ripping it apart in one window.

That versatility cuts both ways, though. Newcastle already have bodies in both positions. Any move at €40 million or beyond forces a hard question: is this a premium squad piece or a cornerstone signing?

With Galatasaray holding out for a bigger fee and the clock ticking toward Sept. 1, Newcastle must decide whether Singo is the defender to anchor this phase of the rebuild — or a deal to walk away from while other targets are still on the board.
