Leipzig Advances in Nkunku Transfer Race Amid Newcastle Interest
RB Leipzig have taken a significant step towards reuniting with Christopher Nkunku, opening the door to one of the more intriguing attacking moves of the current window.
The Bundesliga club have reached a preliminary agreement with Milan for the France forward, with a structure that would initially send him back to Saxony on loan. As reported by Foot Mercato, the proposal on the table is a paid loan worth around €3 million, including a buy option set at roughly €27 million.
Nothing is sealed yet. Leipzig still have to strike a deal with Nkunku himself on personal terms, and until that happens the move remains parked in the “advanced, but not done” category.
For Leipzig, the logic is clear. They want to bring back a player who exploded into a star in their colours, hoping a familiar environment can relaunch him after a disappointing spell at Milan that never matched the expectations surrounding his arrival. Milan, for their part, are studying the cleanest way to move him on and rebalance their squad.
Just as Leipzig appeared to be edging in front, Newcastle have entered the frame with intent. The Premier League side are maintaining strong contact with both Leipzig and Nkunku’s camp, but with a different idea: they are pushing to structure a permanent transfer straight away rather than a loan with a later option.
That stance could prove decisive. A guaranteed sale now may appeal more to Milan than a loan plus deferred purchase, and Newcastle’s willingness to buy outright gives them a potential leverage point in the talks.
Leipzig want a reunion. Newcastle want a statement signing. Milan want clarity. The club that bends first on the structure of the deal may well decide where Nkunku’s next chapter is written.
