Gattuso Ends Icardi Speculation: Sticking to Current Squad

Gennaro Gattuso has moved decisively to end speculation over a move for Mauro Icardi, insisting his club will stand by the attacking options already signed this summer.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the coach was blunt when asked again about the former Inter captain, whose name has hovered around the club all window.

“Let’s put this whole Icardi mess to rest,” Gattuso said, via Calciomercato.com. “He has scored 250 goals in his career, and nobody questions his value. We made our choices; we signed [Andrea] Pinamonti and [Albert] Gudmundsson, and when you give your word to players, you can’t go back on it. With all due respect to Icardi, I’ve discussed it with the president and the director, and it’s right to stick to what we have.”

That was the key line. Not about Icardi’s quality, but about the dressing room and the promises already made. Gattuso framed the issue not as a missed opportunity, but as a matter of credibility.

He then underlined a very practical problem: the squad is already overflowing.

“Right now, we already have players who have to sit out training because we have six full-backs,” he continued. “When Marusic returns, two of them will have to be left out, and that doesn’t look good.”

Too many full-backs, two new forwards, and a coach who refuses to undermine his own word. For now, at least, the Icardi chapter closes before it ever really began.
