Bayern Munich's Young Star Steals Spotlight with Bold Outfit
In a night when Bayern Munich dragged themselves past Real Madrid in a wild 4–3 Champions League quarter-final second leg, one of the club’s brightest young talents still managed to steal a slice of the spotlight without kicking a ball.
Not with a goal. With an outfit. And with a few questionable timekeeping decisions.
Pink, noise and a missing spectator
Still recovering from a torn right hamstring, the 18-year-old forward watched the drama from the Allianz Arena stands, then bounced down onto the pitch to join the celebrations. That was enough for Michael Ballack to wince.
“The fact that he’s jumping at all is already too much. But let’s put it down to his enthusiasm and youth,” Ballack told DAZN, half-admonishing, half-smiling at the teenager’s exuberance.
Enthusiasm is one word for it. His look was another story.
Pink trousers. Pink jacket. Pink Smurf-style hat. Matching shoes. In a stadium Joshua Kimmich had begged to be a sea of red, the youngster turned up like a highlighter pen in a library. Vice-captain Kimmich had publicly urged supporters before the tie to come dressed in Bayern colours. The kid went his own way.
He certainly got noticed.
Aleksandar Pavlovic, asked about the outfit, could only grin. “You know the lad. He wants to stand out,” the midfielder said. “We saw that again today. Let him get on with it.”
Leaving before the whistle
The wardrobe choice was harmless. What irritated the old guard more was his timing.
From the stands, he did not even see the full show. He left his seat in the 39th minute, missing the closing phase of the first half, including the goal that made it 2–3 just before the interval. When the teams re-emerged, he did not. He only returned to his place in the 52nd minute, drifting back into the game as if it were a casual pre-season friendly rather than a season-defining European night.
That, for a club that prides itself on discipline and focus, cut across the grain.
“He’ll get a piece of his mind in the dressing room, I’m sure of that,” Ballack said, clearly unimpressed. The former Germany captain added that he would “definitely” send the youngster a personal message. From Ballack, that is not a throwaway line; it is a warning shot.
Future on hold
The teenager’s absence from the pitch is more serious than his absence from his seat. He had already missed the 5–0 win at St. Pauli on Saturday, and Bayern have not yet put a timeline on his return. Vincent Kompany still does not know how long he will be without the forward.
For now, the player who wants to stand out can only do so in streetwear and celebrations, not in the penalty area. The question for Bayern is simple: when the hamstring heals and the spotlight returns to the grass, will the noise around him be about fashion and missed minutes, or about goals in nights like this?
