Joshua Zirkzee has slipped down the order at Manchester United. In Italy, that’s exactly what makes him the perfect opportunity.

What looked like a straightforward deal for the France international, fresh from an underwhelming loan at Tottenham, has stalled over the fee. Juventus grew tired of waiting.
So they’ve turned to Zirkzee – quickly, decisively, and with a clear plan.
From Old Trafford Fringe to Turin Priority
At 25, Zirkzee is no longer a prospect. He’s a player in need of a stage. Last season he started just five Premier League games under Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick, a brutal statistic for a forward who arrived in 2024 for around £36.5 million and was expected to push United’s attack on.
Instead, he’s now behind Benjamin Sesko and Mateus Cunha in the pecking order, with the possibility of Marcus Rashford re-entering the frame as well. That leaves Zirkzee as the expendable one in a crowded front line.

Internally, there’s recognition that the proposed figure reflects his current market value after a stop-start spell in Manchester.
Juventus Move Fast as Others Watch
Juventus are not alone in their admiration. Roma have held a long-standing interest in Zirkzee and have tracked him closely. But the mood around the deal is clear: the Turin club are the most serious, and crucially, the quickest.
Luciano Spalletti’s side have accelerated discussions, sensing an opening as talks with PSG dragged on. The concern in Turin was simple – time was slipping away, and with it the chance to secure a new No 9 before the season settles into rhythm.
That urgency has now locked their focus onto Zirkzee. Juventus see him as the man to reshape a forward line that has lost Dusan Vlahovic on a free transfer and watched Jonathan David struggle badly in front of goal. David managed just six goals in 35 Serie A appearances last term, a return that has left the club demanding more edge, more presence, more variety in attack.
A Striker Who Knows Serie A
For Zirkzee, the move makes footballing sense. He knows the league, the stadiums, the rhythm of Italian football.
The Dutchman spent a season on loan at Parma and then two years at Bologna, experiences that convinced him Serie A suits his game. He prefers the tactical detail, the structured build-up, the space to drop in and link play rather than fight constant aerial duels or chase hopeful balls into the channels.
At United, confidence has drained away. Nine goals in 75 appearances for the club tell their own story. He has never found a consistent run, never truly felt like the main man. In Turin, he would walk into a dressing room that badly needs a focal point and a fanbase ready to embrace a new attacking leader.
Those close to the talks say Zirkzee is keen on the move to the Allianz Stadium and views Juventus as the right step at this stage of his career. His camp have already given a positive response to the Italian side’s approach, clearing one of the key hurdles in any major transfer.
United Ready to Cut Loose
From United’s perspective, the logic is cold but clear. A player who cost £36.5 million two summers ago is now a third-choice striker. Keeping him as an expensive backup serves nobody.
A loan with a £30 million option offers a clean solution: the chance for Zirkzee to rebuild his value and confidence, and for United to recover a significant chunk of their investment if he delivers in Italy. Given his lack of consistency in England, club officials accept that this is a fair reflection of where his stock now stands.
For Juventus, it is an opportunity they cannot afford to let drift like the Kolo Muani chase. They need goals. They need presence. They need a No 9 who fits the league and the club’s demands.
Zirkzee believes that league is Serie A. Juventus are betting the same – that under their badge, in their colours, the player who flickered in Italy before can finally catch fire.
