Yan Diomande Turns Down Premier League Trio for PSG Move
The Premier League’s heavyweights have made their move. The answer, for now, is still no.
Representatives of Yan Diomande have fielded fresh approaches from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City over the past week, yet each enquiry has met the same response: the winger is committed to joining Paris Saint-Germain.
The chase for one of Europe’s most coveted young attackers is not officially over, but those close to the talks are clear – Diomande’s preference has not shifted despite the late push from England.
Al-Khelaifi steps in as PSG push to finish the job
Inside PSG, this is no routine transfer. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has taken personal control of negotiations with Red Bull as the European champions work to finalise the Ivorian’s move from Leipzig.
His long-standing relationship with Red Bull’s hierarchy has helped clear the path. Conversations have accelerated, and sources close to the deal believe an agreement is edging into view.
Leipzig, for their part, have already accepted internally that Diomande is closing in on a switch to Paris. Earlier this month, the Bundesliga side even explored a compromise: sell now, keep him on loan for another year. It was a way to bank a huge fee without immediately losing their star wide man.
Luis Enrique was having none of it.
The PSG head coach has made it plain he wants Diomande in his dressing room this summer, not in 12 months’ time. He wants the Ivory Coast sensation integrated immediately, part of pre-season, part of the plan for next year’s title defence and Champions League push.
PSG are backing that stance with money. They are prepared to pay around €110million (£93.5m, $126m) to close the deal, underlining how central they believe Diomande will be to the next phase of their project.
Liverpool persist, Arsenal react, City wait
The size of PSG’s offer has not scared off the Premier League. It has simply raised the stakes.
Liverpool remain the most persistent of Diomande’s English admirers. The club have maintained regular dialogue with the player’s camp, staying close to the situation and positioning themselves to react instantly if PSG’s move hits trouble.
They have been in this race the longest and are refusing to drift away quietly.
Arsenal’s interest has sharpened in the past days. After failing to land Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers – a setback that caught them off guard – the Gunners have gone back to Diomande, a player they had monitored throughout the summer. With their primary attacking target missed, they have renewed enquiries and tested whether his stance might soften.
Manchester City have also re-entered the frame. With Savinho expected to complete his move to Tottenham Hotspur, City are still in the market for another wide attacker and have made it clear they would be ready to act if Diomande shows any sign of wavering on PSG.
The response to all three clubs has been blunt. The player’s focus remains on a switch to the Parc des Princes.
No auction, no games – just a clear path to Paris
One concern in deals of this size is always the possibility of a bidding war, driven by Premier League money. Those involved insist that is not the case here.
Sources stress that Red Bull are not using the continued English interest to inflate Diomande’s price. Negotiations with PSG are progressing on their own track, independent of the late calls from Liverpool, Arsenal and City.
There is, however, a layer of complexity off the pitch. Both PSG and Leipzig are aware of complications surrounding Diomande’s recent change of representation. Ongoing discussions are taking place over aspects of his image rights following the switch in agents, with the finer details still being worked through.
Crucially, no one close to the talks expects those issues to derail the move.
The deal is heading into its final stretch. PSG are intent on delivering one of the standout transfers of the summer, and all current signals point in the same direction: Yan Diomande, in Paris, playing under Luis Enrique next season – unless England’s elite can somehow force a twist that no one inside the negotiations currently sees coming.
