World Cup 2026 Champions to Receive Historic Championship Rings
The team that walks out of the New York–New Jersey Stadium as world champions on Monday will leave with more than the sport’s most famous trophy. For the first time in FIFA history, the winners of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final will also be crowned with championship rings.
Spain or Argentina will lift the iconic World Cup trophy, collect their gold medals, and then step into a scene more familiar to followers of the NFL or NBA than to traditionalists of the global game. FIFA has imported one of American sport’s most recognisable symbols of glory and recast it for football’s biggest stage.
This is no small gesture. It is a statement.
A new symbol for a new era
In keeping with the expanded 48-team tournament, FIFA has commissioned 2,026 individually numbered rings to mark the 2026 edition. Thirty of those are reserved for the eventual champions: players, head coach, and key staff. The remaining 1,996 will be released globally as officially licensed memorabilia, offering supporters a rare chance to buy into the same design that will sit on the fingers of the winners.
Each ring carries the FIFA World Cup trophy on one side, the unmistakable silhouette that has defined football greatness for generations. The opposite side will be tailored with the identity of the winning nation, turning every piece into a permanent, wearable reminder of a single night’s triumph.
These are not generic souvenirs. Every ring will be custom-fitted, individually numbered, and delivered with a certificate of authenticity, underlining FIFA’s intent to create a lasting, collectible artefact rather than a novelty.
From the podium to the jeweller’s bench
The rings will not be fully ready for the players the moment the final whistle blows. Immediately after the final, during the on-pitch celebrations, the winning captain and head coach will receive temporary rings, a visual and emotional bridge between the American-style tradition and football’s classic medal ceremony.
The real work begins after the confetti has been cleared.
The 30 championship rings will then be individually adjusted to ensure a precise fit for each member of the winning camp. Only once that process is complete will they be officially presented at a later date, in what promises to be a second moment of reflection and recognition for the new world champions.
On Monday night, one nation will claim the trophy, the medals, and the title. Soon after, they will also wear their victory on their hands — a new ritual for a World Cup stepping boldly into a different sporting culture.
