West Ham Signs Joel Piroe on Loan from Leeds United
West Ham have moved to bolster their attack with the signing of Joel Piroe from Leeds United on a season-long loan, a deal that carries an obligation to buy in the summer of 2027.
The 27-year-old arrives with a serious Championship pedigree. He struck 73 league goals across four seasons in the second tier, first making his name as a ruthless finisher at Swansea City before switching to Leeds, where he finished as their top scorer in the 2024-25 campaign and helped drive them to the title.
The step up proved harsher. Last season in the Premier League, Piroe drew a blank in 16 appearances, a barren run that ultimately opened the door for his move to east London.
Now he gets a reset.
"I think it's a good opportunity for me to show what I've learned and how I've grown as a football player over the years," Piroe told West Ham’s website, outlining a point to prove as he re-enters the top flight.
Born in the Netherlands and now a Suriname international, Piroe came through at PSV Eindhoven and took in a loan spell at Sparta Rotterdam before crossing to England, where he built his reputation as one of the Championship’s most reliable goal threats.
West Ham have kept the finer details under wraps. The club have not disclosed the agreed transfer fee for the 2027 permanent move, nor the length of the contract that would follow.
What is clear is the scale of their rebuild. Piroe becomes West Ham’s fifth permanent addition of the summer window, following Venezuela midfielder Keiber Lamadrid, Dutch defender Joel Veltman, Israel winger Manor Solomon and Belgium midfielder Arne Engels.
Another striker, another gamble. If Piroe’s Championship instincts finally translate to the Premier League, this could be the signing that changes the shape of West Ham’s attack for years, not just for one season.
