Joël Piroe Joins West Ham United on Loan
Joël Piroe has left Leeds United on loan, joining West Ham United for the rest of the 2026/27 Sky Bet Championship campaign, as the London club chases an immediate return to the Premier League.
The Surinamese striker arrived at Elland Road from Swansea City in August 2023 on the back of a prolific season in South Wales, where he struck 19 league goals and built a reputation as one of the Championship’s most reliable finishers.
He wasted no time justifying the move. Thrown straight into Daniel Farke’s side, Piroe made his Leeds debut against Ipswich Town in the second tier only two days after signing – and scored in that very game. It set the tone for a busy first year in West Yorkshire: 53 appearances in all competitions and 16 goals as he became a central figure in Farke’s attack.
The following season he went up a level. Piroe played 48 times and hit 19 goals as Leeds stormed to the Championship title and secured their return to the Premier League. His haul earned him the division’s Golden Boot and underlined his status as one of the most clinical forwards outside the top flight.
Now 27, Piroe takes that pedigree to the London Stadium, where West Ham are attempting to climb straight back into the Premier League after last season’s relegation. His arrival offers the Hammers a proven scorer at this level and a focal point for their promotion push.
Leeds, in confirming the deal, have sent their best wishes to Piroe for his spell with West Ham and his time in front of the London Stadium crowd.
