The Viral Haaland Twin: Miami's Norway Fan Carnival

What started as a simple hairstyle has turned into a full-blown football sideshow.

Content creator Willman has watched her life tilt sideways after braiding her hair sparked a tidal wave of comparisons to Erling Haaland. One video, one look, and the internet did the rest.

“[It’s been] so surreal ... I never expected braiding my hair to turn into millions of people comparing me to Erling Haaland,” she told People, still sounding slightly stunned by the scale of it all.

The resemblance, amplified by social media, has become its own subplot to Norway’s World Cup charge. Memes, side-by-side photos, clips stitched and shared at dizzying speed – and then came the moment that pushed it into another stratosphere: Haaland himself joined in.

“It’s been amazing to watch the internet have so much fun with it, and seeing Erling comment on my video made the whole thing feel even more unreal,” she said. For a creator who lives off reactions and reach, this was lightning in a bottle. “As a creator, you never know what’s going to resonate, so I’m just grateful people have embraced it and had fun along the way.”

Now the online joke is stepping into the real world.

Willman is heading to Miami, Florida, to watch Haaland’s Norway face England in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday (local time). She calls him her “twin” and would love their paths to finally cross in person.

Haaland, speaking to the same publication, leaned into the fun. “It would be pretty funny if our paths crossed in real life after all of this,” he said. No grand promises, no staged stunt – just a knowing nod to a viral moment that refuses to die down.

A Lookalike Contest Before the Quarter-Final

Miami won’t just be hosting a World Cup knockout tie. It will also stage a very modern kind of fan event: an Erling Haaland lookalike contest.

Willman is front and centre, using her newfound “twin” status to pull Norway fans together before kick-off. The prize is serious – two free tickets to the game – but the premise is pure fun.

On Instagram, she laid down the challenge.

“If you have ever been told you look like Haaland and are a Norway fan, you’re in for a surprise!” she wrote. Partnering with @kalshi, she’s inviting supporters to turn up in Miami on matchday and lean fully into the bit. “@kalshi is helping me host an Erling Haaland lookalike contest right before the game on Saturday for 2 FREE TICKETS TO THE GAME!

“Meet us at the location [in Miami], and bring your best Haaland moves! See you there and good luck!”

Braids, headbands, goal celebrations, even the trademark stare – all of it is likely to appear on a sidewalk in Miami hours before Norway and England fight for a place in the semi-finals.

The stakes on the pitch will be high. The atmosphere off it, thanks to a viral doppelgänger and a striker who chose to play along, might be even higher.
