Vincent Kompany Begins Pre-Season at FC Bayern

Vincent Kompany ushers in a new chapter at FC Bayern today, as the German champions quietly trade World Cup drama for running tracks, heart-rate belts and data sheets. Pre-season for 2026/27 has begun in Munich – not with fireworks, but with the cold, precise reality of performance diagnostics.

The full squad is still scattered across the globe, some players only just emerging from the emotional and physical toll of the World Cup. Kompany works with what he has.

  • Sven Ulreich
  • Tom Bischof
  • João Palhinha
  • Bryan Zaragoza
  • Sacha Boey
  • Arijon Ibrahimović

are already on the pitch, the first-team core available from day one. Around them, the rehab group continues its careful climb back to full intensity: Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl, David Santos Daiber and Cassiano Kiala are being eased in, step by step, their workload calibrated rather than forced.

This opening phase belongs to the fitness staff. Laps, sprints, lactate tests. Numbers that will shape how Kompany builds his side over the coming weeks.

The bulk of the World Cup contingent, including the Germany internationals, are scheduled for their own round of checks on 27 and 28 July. Only after that will they drip-feed into the main group, travelling individually to the training camp at the Tegernsee. No grand arrival, no staged photoshoot. Just a steady flow of players returning to a squad that has to reset quickly.

Tegernsee Training Camp

Tegernsee will again be Bayern’s summer base from 27 to 30 July, a familiar setting for a club that likes routine in the middle of change. Every afternoon at 15:30 CEST, the sessions will open up to the public. Supporters will get an early look at Kompany’s ideas, his training intensity, his interactions with the squad.

Then the travelling begins.

  • Luis Díaz
  • Konrad Laimer
  • Josip Stanišić

are due to link up with the team before the Audi Summer Tour to Jeju and Hong Kong, with departure fixed for 1 August. That tour will carry the Bayern brand across Asia, but it will not yet feature all of the club’s headline names.

  • Harry Kane
  • Michael Olise
  • Dayot Upamecano
  • Jamal Musiala
  • Alphonso Davies
  • Ismael Saibari
  • Gnabry
  • Karl

will only join after the team returns from Asia. The same applies to Kompany’s pre-season, then, will be a puzzle assembled in stages rather than in one clean picture.

Before Bayern board the plane, there is the traditional curtain-raiser at Tegernsee. On 30 July, the club face FC Rottach-Egern in a friendly that has become a quirky fixture of the summer calendar. Once again, it will be shown via a free live stream on FC Bayern’s official channels, a small window into the early days of the Kompany era.

No trophies are handed out in July. But this is where the tone is set, where a new coach learns his squad, and where a long season starts to take shape – quietly, on training pitches far from the noise that will come later.
