Then come the two Dutch heavyweights: Ajax and PSV. Both have “made enquiries” with AZ, Jacobs reports, and their interest underlines how highly Parrott is rated within the Eredivisie and beyond.
Ajax’s presence in the race raises eyebrows. On paper, they should be done shopping for strikers. Marcos Leonardo has arrived from Al-Hilal in a €20 million move, while Tolu Arokodare has joined on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Add Kasper Dolberg and Don-Angelo Konadu and you get a squad already carrying four recognised centre-forwards.
Yet Ajax are still asking about Parrott. That tells its own story about how they view his ceiling, even in a crowded attacking department.
PSV’s angle feels more straightforward. Alassane Pléa is still searching for the sharpness and explosiveness he showed before his injury. Ricardo Pepi, meanwhile, could leave before the window shuts. If that domino falls, PSV will need a striker who can step straight into a title-chasing side. Parrott fits that brief.
AZ hold the cards – and already have the heir in place
For now, AZ remain in control. Parrott is tied to a long-term contract in Alkmaar, running until mid‑2029, which gives the Dutch club leverage in any negotiation.
The exact asking price is not on the table, but there is a reference point. Last winter, AZ were working with a valuation of around €30 million. With multiple clubs circling and years left on his deal, they have no reason to come down from a strong position.
Crucially, they have also prepared for life after Parrott.
His likely successor is already in the building. Mexx Meerdink is set to lead the line under new head coach Leeroy Echteld next season, promoted to first-choice status after his steady rise within the club. Behind him, Jizz Hornkamp offers dependable cover, giving AZ a clear internal plan if a major offer lands on the table.
