Summer Transfer Market: Premier League and La Liga Moves
The transfer market hasn’t opened yet, but the heavyweights are already circling, calculators out and chequebooks twitching. Across Europe, the summer’s biggest storylines are starting to take shape.
Premier League sharks in deep water
At Old Trafford, Manchester United are casting the net wide. Brentford striker Igor Thiago is the latest name on their list, a prolific Brazilian who suddenly finds himself at the centre of a bidding war. United like him. Chelsea, though, are ready to test everyone’s resolve with a proposed $105.8 million (£77.8 million, €90 million) move that would shove them to the front of the queue.
Arsenal, flush with Champions League prize money and the glow of a run to the final, are thinking even bigger. Sky Sports News reports the Gunners are eyeing a sensational move for Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the same Georgian playmaker they are set to face in that very final. With a war chest of around $165.9 million (£122 million), Arsenal suddenly have the financial muscle to turn a fantasy into a live storyline.
United’s rebuild does not stop in attack. The club’s long-running search for a commanding centre back has dragged them towards north London. Micky van de Ven, Tottenham Hotspur’s rapid, left-sided defender, is now on a United shortlist that also features Nottingham Forest’s Murillo and RB Leipzig talent Castello Lukeba, according to Fichajes. None of those deals will be simple, but Van de Ven’s situation is particularly volatile.
Liverpool are ready to step into that same fight. TEAMtalk claims the Anfield hierarchy are prepared to go head-to-head with United for Van de Ven, whose price tag could swing dramatically based on Tottenham’s fate. If Spurs stay up, the Dutchman is valued at around $122.4 million (£90 million). If they drop, that figure is expected to fall to $81.6 million (£60 million). For Europe’s elite, that kind of discount is impossible to ignore.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are not just buyers. One of their biggest assets is at the centre of a tug-of-war. Enzo Fernández, a World Cup winner and the heartbeat of Argentina’s midfield, is drawing interest from Manchester City, Real Madrid and Arsenal. Fichajes values him at $141 million (£103.7 million, €120 million). For Chelsea, who know he wants a bigger stage and more stability, that number will be the starting point, not the finish line.
The surprises do not stop there. In Turkey, Galatasaray have fixed their gaze on Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. FotoMac reports that the Istanbul giants see the Dutchman, out of contract in 2025, as the marquee signing to elevate them another level. Remarkably, Van Dijk is thought to be open to the idea. If that door opens even a fraction, the noise around Anfield will be deafening.
Arsenal’s academy continues to draw covetous eyes from the continent. Atlético Madrid have made a formal approach for Myles Lewis-Skelly, the latest jewel off the Hale End production line and now flourishing as a midfielder. Fichajes suggests Arsenal will demand around €70 million to even consider breaking that bond. For a teenager, that is a staggering price. For Arsenal, it reflects how highly they rate him.
Newcastle United, still intent on adding punch to their attack, have not forgotten Liam Delap. After tracking the Chelsea striker last summer, GIVEMESPORT reports they are expected to return and try to make him a headline arrival this time around. The plan on Tyneside is clear: younger, hungrier, and with resale value.
United’s recruitment drive stretches into midfield too. The Telegraph links them with West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, another sign that the club’s hierarchy want to refresh the spine of the team in one aggressive window.
Lower down the Premier League pecking order, Aston Villa and Tottenham are circling Parma midfielder Mandela Keita, according to TuttoAtalanta. For Villa, it would be another smart, upward-looking move. For Spurs, it fits a broader pattern: younger legs, higher ceilings, and a squad built to run.
La Liga giants plotting their next moves
In Spain, Real Madrid are already shaping the next phase of their super-team. On the advice of Croatia captain and club legend Luka Modrić, they have reignited their pursuit of Manchester City defender Joško Gvardiol. Fichajes puts his price at $117.5 million (£86.4 million, €100 million). For a club that has just added Kylian Mbappé, the idea of also landing one of the world’s premier young defenders underlines the scale of their ambition.
Barcelona, wrestling with finances yet still drawn to big names, could be about to pounce on an opportunity of their own. El Nacional reports that Bayern Munich youngster Lennart Karl is keen on a move to Camp Nou this summer. For a club that has had to lean on its academy and cut costs, the chance to bring in a prodigious midfielder from Bavaria will be tempting.
Mbappé himself remains a lightning rod. Despite a fierce public backlash and calls from some quarters to move him on, Real Madrid have no plans to sell him this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. The club have made their bet and will live with the noise.
Vinicius Junior’s situation is far less settled. His contract runs to 2027, but he has yet to extend, and that delay has opened the door to speculation. TEAMtalk describes Manchester City as “serious contenders” for the Brazilian, whose pace and directness would fit seamlessly into Pep Guardiola’s attack. The idea of Madrid losing Vinicius so soon after winning the Mbappé race would have been unthinkable not long ago. Now, it is at least on the table.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are probing the Premier League market again. Their first offer for Spurs fullback Pedro Porro has landed at $35.3 million (£25.9 million, €30 million). For Tottenham, that bid is unlikely to be enough. For Barça, it is a marker, a signal that they intend to keep upgrading the flanks even while counting every euro.
The numbers are eye-watering, the names familiar, but the pattern is clear: this summer will not be quiet. The only question now is which of Europe’s giants blinks first.
