Luciano Spalletti Defends Referee After Controversial Milan Goal Against Juventus

Spalletti Stands by Referee After Disputed Milan Goal

Luciano Spalletti chose not to criticise the officials following a contentious moment involving Randal Kolo Muani during Juventus' recent match against Milan. Instead, the Juventus coach backed referee Maurizio Mariani, arguing that minor physical contacts should not automatically be called fouls in today's football.

No Complaints From Juve Boss

After a tough Serie A clash, Spalletti publicly supported Mariani's decisions. The incident in question saw Kolo Muani collide with Koni De Winter, which then led to a goal for Milan. This sparked debate about whether a foul should have been awarded.

Rather than blaming the officials, Spalletti urged his defenders to accept responsibility for their mistakes. He praised the refereeing performance instead of making excuses.

Embracing Modern Refereeing

Spalletti stated that Italian football must adapt to the global trend of allowing play to continue despite light physical contact. He said Mariani's decision to let the action flow before the goal was correct.

"Mariani is one of the best Italian referees and in my opinion, the line we are seeing is correct," Spalletti said at the post-match press conference. "We are adapting to what happens around the world. These are not fouls and it is right not to blow the whistle."
"Either there is an impact, a foul... Everything is fine, I am not going to complain about these things here. The team should have brought the goal home earlier."

Higher Expectations for Juventus Players

Moving away from refereeing debates, Spalletti focused on tactical demands. He wants his squad to be more aggressive both offensively and defensively.

"I am asking them to go and press, and to build serious things when we have the ball," he said. "Then to make them learn that the real difference is made in the spaces that no one measures. It is made in those moments where everything seems normal and you have the strength to overturn the result."

Juventus' Standings and Upcoming Match

This draw keeps Juventus in fifth place with seven points. They will look to recover and claim a win when they face Sassuolo in their next Serie A game this weekend.
